So, 10th October was finally the day of Nikki’s Judicial Service.
This marks the start of the judicial year but importantly also provides Nikki, as High Sheriff, with the chance to thank all of the incredible folk who help to keep us safe and administer justice in the county.
Nikki was privileged to hold it in Buckingham Parish Church which was a perfect setting. The High Sheriff’s chaplain is the resident vicar and was superb followed by Nikki’s sister who read a bible reading beautifully. The amazing Helen Tyrell talking about her work as a ND coach for people on probation before ACC Murray read a poem Nikki had chosen called ‘Should we have as much sense as a goose’ which was very apt.
The absolute icing on the cake was the choir - led by Justin Lavender. They were outstanding and Nikki was so grateful for the choice of songs, their skill and the most incredible sound. A second massive shout out to the ladies from the Tingewick Community Cafe who volunteered their time and skills to bake and serve cakes and tea at the end of the service. Everyone commented on how great the cakes were!
A special thank you to all who attended and joined Nikki in recognising the people in the justice system and beyond, acknowledging the start of the justice year and generally getting her message about why we need to do more to support people with ND conditions. Thank you to the South Bucks police cadets and their leaders for their help as ever and of course The High Sheriff’s cadet, Zara who was outstanding! Nikki arrived home at the end of the day absolutely exhausted but very happy.
